Virtual Education Sessions Overview
A core goal of our community engagement work is to provide information to community members about the complex set of considerations that will inform what is possible on site. To help build a foundation of collective knowledge around these topics, the planning team will produce a series of online Virtual Education Session videos, each focused on a different element or elements of the planning process. These Virtual Education Sessions will be developed over multiple phases of the project and will be uploaded to this project engagement website.

Virtual Education Session #4 explores a series of Site Design Layers that serve to inform future site design explorations. Site design layers take a focused look at each of the major systems and use categories that come together to compose a plan for the future of the site. The planning team has explored different approaches to each of these layers to understand potential benefits, impacts, and trade-offs of each potential direction. These considerations, community input to date, community input on these layers, the project Guiding Principles, and direction from the Santa Monica City Council will serve as the foundation for the three test fit scenarios later in Phase 3A.

On Saturday, May 17, 2025 the Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project Planning Team hosted the third community event as part part of our process, focused on three scenarios for the future of the airport site. These scenarios are meant as conversation starters and are not fully developed design proposals. We welcome your feedback and comments on these scenarios via our project CoMap, accessible via the buttons above, through June 22, 2025. Comments from the CoMap and Community Event 3 will be brought before City Council for consideration and direction on how to proceed towards a new, hybrid, Preferred Scenario in Phase 3B. We look forward to your comments.

Preparing for Takeoff Open House - 05/19/2024
On Sunday, May 19th, the project planning team (including representatives from the City of Santa Monica, Sasaki, and The Robert Group) hosted a kick-off event for the Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project. Community members were invited to meet the planning team, explore exhibits related to the project process and the airport site, and participate in activities to better understand the site and provide initial input on our planning work. Each major phase of community engagement will include a community event in Santa Monica, offering community members the chance to engage directly with the planning team and the content explored as part of that phase of work. The second large-scale community event as part of the planning process will be held on Saturday, December 7 at Memorial Park Gym from 1pm-4pm. This Phase 2 Community event will review the results of Survey 2 around the future of the airport site after its anticipated closure at the end of 2028.
